No, we are not kidding.

In an attempt to boost tourism in areas that are not Rome, Milan, Tuscany, Lake Como, Venice and the Amalfi Coast, the State Property Agency and Ministry of Cultural Heritage of Italy are giving away 103 castles across the country to prevent them from becoming crumbling landmarks.

Those who receive the property will have to transform the buildings into sources of economic growth i.e. hotels, restaurants, shops, spas or luxury villas. This is perhaps the reason that young entrepreneurs are being targeted for the job.

Some of the oldest castles up for grabs are the 13th-century Castello di Montefiore and the Castello di Blera in Lazio, an 11th-century property built by nobility on a cliffside, with many of its medieval features still intact.

To get your hands on a castle, you have to do is send in your application by June 26, 2017, explaining how you plan on restoring the castle. If selected, the castle will be yours for 9 years.

If your plan is super-amazing, the castle will be leased to you for 50 years!
