‘’I don’t care how I look on my wedding day,’’ said no bride ever.

Whether you play it cool or choose to elope, admit it — you want to look like a movie star, a drop dead gorgeous diva, an ethereal angel — every girl dreams to look her best on her big day. But the stress of looking good combined with the strains of preparations can leave you looking exhausted.

Yes, there is always makeup to fix everything but even the best magic tricks can flounder if not done correctly. Here are some biggest wedding makeup mistakes that you NEED to know to avoid a beauty disaster on your big day.

1. Don’t follow trends

You will have plenty of chances to scroll through Insta-trends but trust us here: your wedding is not the day to experiment. Opt for colours that you know work for your skin tone. Don’t give into the desires to contour like Kardashians and if you still do — go for a makeup trial.

Your makeup is as important as your dress and you’ve been to say what, 3 or 4 trials already? When you’re not leaving any room for loopholes in the dress departments then why leave makeup to fate?

2. Don’t cake on foundation

In your over-enthusiasm to create a flawless skin, you might end up layering up the foundation that will leave you looking like you're wearing theatre makeup.

Your guests can see right through those layers and so can the camera. Also, it’s a wedding — you’re a bride — there will be a lot of hugging, You don’t want people to carry a bit of your foundation on their new clothes – right? Choose a tired and tested foundation that lasts longer without being too heavy on the face.

3. Don’t forget body makeup

If you’re wearing a plunging neckline or a sleeveless gown —you don’t want people to see your tan lines. You need to ensure that the colour of your face matches the rest of your body.

Also, highlighting your collarbone just a bit would add a fabulous touch to your dress.

4. Don’t OD on blush or highlighter

We get it you want to be a blushing bride but there's no need to overdo the blush, bronzer or highlighter. It might look glowing in pictures but IRL — it would only leave you looking like a clown. Choose a soft pink shade that compliments your natural tones.

5. Don’t go for over-the-top dramatic eyes

Unless you can pull it off — it’s best to keep the colour black to your mascara, especially if it’s a day wedding.

Dark colours tend to create harsh lines and a strange shadow no matter how much concealer you use. Instead, opt for lighter shades of brown and greys to accentuate the shape of your eyes.

6. Choose a powder that is the colour of your skin

A lot of brides and celebrities have learnt it the hard way. The camera lights can be harsh so avoid getting beamed into outer space. Stay away from translucent powder that turns up white in flash photography.
