5 Reasons You Are Always Hungry

The feeling is a little too familiar. You've had your lunch only 30 minutes ago and yet you're craving cookies.

Why are some of us hungry all the time? What can we do to stop the feeling? Keep scrolling to find out.

1. You're actually thirsty

If you feel hungry all the time, you might actually be dehydrated and confusing thirst for hunger. Next time you feel hungry, chug a tall glass of water and see if you still feel the urge to eat.

2. You're bored

We're all guilty of this. Sometimes having nothing to do becomes the default for grabbing a snack.

Apart from keeping yourself busy, movement is the best way to combat hunger triggering from boredom. Next time you feel like snacking, take a walk instead and see how you feel a few minutes after.

3. You're depressed/stressed

If you are overworked, stressed, depressed or lonely, you might look to food to comfort you. This is often referred to as emotional eating.

To combat emotional eating, you have to work on the underlying emotional issues that trigger you to binge.

4. You don't eat enough protein

Protein is one of the most satiating nutrients we have. Consuming carbs on the regular is going to leave you feeling ravenously hungry.

Include protein with every meal and snack. The protein will help not only keep you full but also help with regulating blood sugar.

5. You eat too much sugar and junk food

Junk food and simple carbs are loaded with empty calories. So even though the bag of chips was so delicious, it provided you with no nutrients which is why you feel hungry soon after. Junk food also causes your blood sugar to spike which gives you an instant boost of energy followed by a crash, fatigue and hunger.

Include high fibre, slow-burning carbs in your diet, like whole grains and vegetables, plus lean protein and healthy slow-digesting fats like nuts and avocado to feel fuller for a longer period of time.
